1 August 2012, Gowanda, NY (USA) – Gowanda Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for RF and power applications, announced that the company recently achieved failure rate Level R for its MIL-PRF-39010 RF Inductors – ER10M Series and ER17S Series. These thru-hole series meet the military’s Qualified Product List (QPL) requirements for Established Reliability (ER). Such approval requires extensive testing for electrical, environmental, mechanical and thermal performance.

Level R represents a 10X increase in reliability over the prior Level P rating for these two series. Each series has exceeded 10 million unit hours of life testing to date.

The company’s ER10M and ER17S Series were introduced in the fall of 2010 with Level M approval and represented Gowanda’s first ER products for the military market. As a result of a commitment to do the required testing to achieve higher level approvals, Gowanda’s ER10M and ER17S inductors reached level P in April 2011 and now meet the relevant MIL-PRF-39010 specifications to failure rate Level R.

ER10M is a wirewound, molded design approved for MIL-PRF-39010 slash 08, 09 and 10. Performance includes: Inductance from 0.10 uH to 1000 uH; Q Min from 25 to 55; SRF MHz Min from 3.4 to 680; DCR Ohms Max from 0.08 to 72 and Current Rating DC mA from 28 to 1350. Operating Temperature is -55°C to 125°C for /08 and -55°C to 105°C for /09 and /10. (See links below for technical details)

ER17S is a wirewound, molded, shielded design approved for MIL-PRF-39010 slash 01, 02 and 03. Performance includes: Inductance from 0.10 uH to 1000 uH; Q Min from 40 to 60; SRF MHz Min from 3.8 to 250; DCR Ohms Max from 0.025 to 17.5 and Current Rating DC mA from 70 to 1790. Operating Temperature is -55°C to 105°C. (See links below for technical details)

These Level R series represent the most reliable off-the-shelf inductors offered for high-reliability applications. They also demonstrate Gowanda’s ongoing commitment to the development and introduction of QPL products which address the needs of the military and aerospace markets.

Gowanda’s ER10M and ER17S series are designed for RF applications in military, aerospace and defense communities. This includes use in communication, guidance and security applications, as well as in radar, test evaluation, and special mission applications.

Gowanda’s Power Inductors First to Achieve QPL Level T for Mil-Prf-27

MLP5025-T, MLP1812-T and MLP8527-T Series Address Market Need for Highest Level of Certification

For Product Information click here or use the links below.
For Downloadable PDF of the News Release or JPG Photo Options: refer to “Downloads Available” below.

22 February 2012, Gowanda, NY (USA) – Gowanda Electronics, a US-based designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for power, radio frequency (RF), and high frequency (HF) applications, has achieved the highest level of certification on three surface mount power inductor series. Gowanda’s three “MLP” series have been added to the military’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime Qualified Products List (QPL) for MIL-PRF-27 Level T. This is the highest quality level attainable per the Department of Defense military specification MIL-PRF-27 for components used in high-reliability critical military applications. Gowanda is the first in the industry to offer these Level T components.

Gowanda’s MLP5025-T series is qualified to MIL-PRF-27/367A while the company’s MLP1812-T series meets MIL-PRF-27/368A and the MLP8527-T series meets MIL-PRF-27/370A. By achieving Level T certification on these wirewound molded power inductors, Gowanda is responding to a need conveyed by organizations in the military market for a high-reliability QPL-approved inductor supplier for this mil spec.

These MLP series are designed for power applications in military, space, aerospace and defense communities. This includes use in communication, guidance, and security applications, as well as in radar, test & evaluation, and special mission applications.

The three T Level QPL series from Gowanda allow customers immediate access to higher level environmentally screened inductors. This streamlines the customer’s operations by eliminating the need to create their own internal upscreening documentation.

Gowanda Electronics now offers these Level T products in addition to its MIL-PRF-27 Level M qualified products initially introduced in 2009.  The Level T certification requires more extensive lot conformance testing and inspection than Level M.  Each Level T production lot is subjected to 100% thermal shock, burn-in and radiographic inspection in addition to electrical testing. The customer-specific application determines the need to meet Level M or Level T requirements. These series are also suitable for use in non-military high reliability (hi-rel) or high risk applications which warrant a thoroughly tested inductor coil.

Technical specifications for the discrete part numbers within these series address the following ranges:

  • MLP5025-T: Inductance (0.22 to 22000 µH); Current Rating (7.00 to .050 Amps); DCR Max (.0080 to 160.0 Ohms)
  • MLP1812-T: Inductance (1.0 to 330 µH); Current Rating (1.050 to .090 Amps); DCR Max (.113 to 15.240 Ohms)
  • MLP8527-T: Inductance (1.0 to 18000 µH); Current Rating (6.27 to .09 Amps); DCR Max (.009 to 40.0 Ohms)

Technical information about the three MLP series is available at the company’s website.

Data Sheets
Product Information

All three MLP series utilize high-resistivity, high-saturation ferrite cores, have an operating temperature range of -55°C to +130°C, and are available in tape and reel packaging. Internal connections utilize high melting temperature solder while external terminations are coated with a tin (Sn) lead (Pb) alloy containing more than 3% lead (Pb).

QPL RF Surface Mount Inductor Product Line

Gowanda introduced these two QPL Series in response to market demand for a QPL-approved inductor supplier for smaller size, high frequency applications. This action aligns with the company’s previous announcement regarding its commitment to the development and introduction of QPL products which address the needs of military and aerospace markets. Several QPL products have been introduced since that announcement and more are anticipated. (See helpful website links below.)

Gowanda Electronics can offer variations to these designs in order to meet the specific requirements of a particular application. The pursuit of QPL approval for such customer-specific designs depends on volume and other factors. Additionally Gowanda can upscreen a standard design from a commercial product line using the company’s in-house environmental testing lab to fulfill customer reliability requirements. Gowanda will also consider inquiries from companies looking for partnering opportunities to address specific QPL needs.

For design details, pricing, delivery, application-specific variations, upscreen and/or partnering opportunities please contact Gowanda Electronics at USA (716) 532-2234 or sales@gowanda.com .
