Instec’s EMI Filter Approved for Space Program

Feed-through filter meets Department of Defense mil spec MIL-PRF-28861

Instec, LLC, a designer and manufacturer of electromagnetic interference filters & radio frequency interference filters, and an affiliate of Gowanda Holdings, announces it has successfully manufactured and upscreened an EMI feed-through filter to meet the United States Department of Defense specification MIL-PRF-28861. The bolt style, resin sealed, C-circuit filter from the company’s 640 Series will now be used for a US government space program where it will help suppress electromagnetic interference, which would otherwise interfere with the performance of electronic circuitry.

The specific part number is Instec 640-102CN. Performance includes Capacitance of 1000 pF minimum, DC Voltage Rating of 100 V and Current Rating of 5 A DC. Typical Insertion Loss is 8 dB at 10 MHz, 25 dB at 100 MHz and 40 dB at both 1 GHz and 10 GHz. The Operating Temperature Range is -55°C to +125°C. This part is thread type 8-32 and consists of a silver-plated brass case and silver-plated copper nail head lead. A technical datasheet for this part is provided below.

The mil-spec qualification of this part required rigorous testing of electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. Testing was performed at Gowanda’s in-house environmental lab. This lab is Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime approved (in support of internal product qualifications).

Instec welcomes inquiries regarding the upscreening of additional filters for applications in defense, military and space communities. The company also supports custom designs with extensive experience, proprietary manufacturing equipment, prototyping capabilities and testing facilities.

Gowanda, NY (USA) – Gowanda Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for radio frequency and power applications, announced achievement of failure rate Level R on two more of its MIL-PRF-39010 RF Inductor Series – ER15M and ER18M – adding to the company’s series already approved to Level R – ER10M and ER17S. These four thru-hole series meet the military’s Qualified Product List (QPL) requirements for Established Reliability (ER) and address ten different MIL-PRF-39010 slash numbers (/01 through /10). This approval required extensive testing for electrical, environmental, mechanical and thermal performance. Level R represents the most reliable off-the-shelf inductors for high-reliability applications.

Gowanda’s “ER” series are designed for RF applications in military, aerospace and space – including defense and NASA communities. This includes use in communication, guidance and security applications, as well as in radar, test & evaluation, and special mission applications.

These four ER series were initially introduced with Level M approval. As part of the company’s commitment to the military market, Gowanda pursued the testing required to attain higher level approvals – first achieving Level P – and now Level R – on all four series. Level R represents a 100X increase in reliability over the initial Level M rating. Gowanda’s four series have cumulatively exceeded 45 million unit hours of testing.

The overall performance range provided by the four series includes inductance from 0.10 to 1000 uH, Q min from 25 to 75, SRF MHz min from 3.4 to 680, DCR Ohms max from 0.025 to 72, and current rating mA DC from 28 to 2900. Refer to the table below for series-specific values.

TTE Relocation

Dear Valued Business Partner:

As you may be aware, TTE, Inc. was acquired by Gowanda Holdings last year with the goal to expand TTE’s electronic component offerings to the RF and microwave marketplace while building on TTE’s 55+ years as an industry leader in the design and manufacturer of electronic filters. After the acquisition TTE has continued to operate in Los Angeles, California, as TTE Filters, LLC.

Gowanda Holdings is pleased to announce that TTE Filters, LLC will be relocating to upstate New York in early July. TTE will move into a brand new, state‐of‐the‐art manufacturing facility affiliated with Gowanda Electronics (also a Gowanda Holdings company). We are excited about this move and look forward to more partnering opportunities with Gowanda Electronics to leverage their impressive 50+ years of electronics manufacturing success. To date, TTE Filters, in conjunction with Gowanda Electronics, has already introduced a line of Bias Tees to 40GHz, increased the frequency range for Lowpass Filters to 6GHz and rolled out a line of In‐Stock Lowpass Chebyshev Filters to 6GHz. And that’s just the beginning!
